Cloud Provider RapidScale Offers Citrix NetScaler SD-WAN

The managed cloud provider RapidScale is offering Citrix NetScaler SD-WAN as a standalone managed service. In addition, RapidScale is making the Citrix NetScaler SD-WAN service available for resale through its network of independent agents.

RapidScale CEO Randy Jeter said his company owns its own platform, which operates out of six facilities. “We partner with Cisco, Citrix, NetApp, and Fortinet for our core infrastructure,” said Jeter. “We own our own backbone. We’re a global IT service provider with our own cloud.” But he wouldn’t compare RapidScale’s cloud exactly to public cloud providers such as Amazon Web Services (AWS). He said RapidScale’s cloud is built like a public cloud platform, but it’s distributed through customers. Jeter mentioned that Cox Communications is a customer.

“We built a global MPLS backbone,” said Jeter. “If you look at Aryaka, they deliver one service set. We’ve mapped that strategy into delivering the best application performance to our clients.”

RapidScale offers a host of services from its cloud, including email, Skype, desktop-as-a-service, data recovery, and virtual servers, along with the SD-WAN offering, which simplifies the branch network and increases the performance and reliability of enterprise applications.

“We’ve seen a tremendous amount of interest in SD-WAN technologies over the past year,” said Duane Barnes, senior vice president of technology at RapidScale, in a statement. “Many of our clients are looking to add resiliency, quality of service, and bandwidth capacity, while reducing overall network costs.”

RapidScale has had a 10-year relationship with Citrix, prior to this SD-WAN deal. “Citrix delivers software, and they need someone to manage that,” said Jeter. “They don’t have an in-house managed model for that. We come in and manage that globally on our platform.”

He added that Citrix matured NetScaler into SD-WAN, and “They need someone to distribute that and drive it into the market. We’re attacking the market together, not only SD-WAN, but the entire suite of services Citrix has.”
