Apcela today released a network telemetry and monitoring agent, AppMon, that integrates with its Enhanced Analytics Platform. The agent constantly scans the network and its applications to locate application-specific performance problems and to figure out ways to optimize the network.
AppMon sensors run on a host, typically a virtual machine (VM) on a server. This allows users to deploy the sensors in a dense mesh and creates a more granular method of measurement and detection. AppMon measures and collects data about performance and detects anomalies and problems.
Because AppMon is integrated with Apcela’s analytics platform, it offers enterprises a single pane of glass view into applications in a variety of infrastructures, including public and private clouds, and within hybrid infrastructures. AppMon provides underlay network telemetry, while the platform provides overlay network telemetry.
Apcela launched the Enhanced Analytics Platform, and its SD-WAN API, earlier this year. The platform isolates problems in the application delivery stack and correlates operational data between network systems. It also retains full data sets, which makes it easier for enterprises to identify the correlations and root causes of issues like latency, packet loss, and jitter across the disparate systems.
The SD-WAN API leverages Cisco’s SD-WAN to increase visibility and give enterprises predictive and automated analysis into their networks, according to the company.
AppMon adds to the capabilities of the platform by running a number of synthetic performance tests through their sensors to continuously collect telemetry data over Apcela’s backbone. The Enhanced Analytics Platform can then analyze and report on this data. Overall, it adds a layer of precision in how the end-user monitors and maintains their application delivery infrastructure.
Simply put, the sensors obtains their workload from the central orchestrator and runs tests accordingly. The results are sent to the platform to process, index, visualize, and analyze.
This integration creates a link between the network infrastructure and application performance in order to effectively monitor and report on the real-time performance of a network.
Additionally, AppMon can be fully integrated with Cisco SD-WAN and other SD-WANs. The data collected from the agents can be integrated with SD-WAN performance data to enable enterprises to identify patterns in their data, identify correlated events, and locate opportunities to improve network and application performance.
