SAP S/4HANA Cloud 1802 and Customer Influence

The latest SAP S/4HANA Cloud update is now available per a news post from SAP. This release is 1802.

In this release, SAP claims more intelligent functionality in machine learning, more in-memory analytics, more context based collaboration, and features that SAP believes have broad reaching impact.

As has been common with the most recent releases, this release has been heavily influenced by the SAP customer community.

To enhance this aspect further, SAP has launched a ' customer influence site' where SAP customers can submit suggestions and explore existing improvement requests and vote for them.

SAP previously supported this crowdsourced approach with the SAP Idea place, but I guess this new site is much more focused and you need a SAPID to get access.

I took a brief look at the submissions and was not surprised to see that there was a lot of interest in Concur, Successfactors and S/4HANA Cloud beta testing.

Digging a little deeper and looking at the delivered improvements most of them seemed to be specifically related to SuccessFactors. I suppose this represents and invevitable ask given that the biggest challenge is getting existing on-prem SAP HCM customers to make the shift to SuccessFactors.

The new requests were a mix of HANA platform requests Analytics cloud, SuccessFactors Reporting and Hybris requests.

The levels of engagement seemed to be relatively low but this could be as a result of a number of factors, not least of them being that the actual number of S/4HANA customers is relatively small and most customers will be waiting on the release for on-premise.

Per the roadmap, the next major on-premise release will be 1809 SPS00, but there will be Feature Pack and Support Package stacks in the intervening months. The current on premise release is 1709.
